Troy, New York 12180 – Travon T. Jackson of The Black Planning Institute (BPI) was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council. NSBA is the nation’s oldest small-business advocacy organization, and operates on a staunchly nonpartisan basis. Jackson, a recognized leader in the small-business community, joins the NSBA Leadership Council alongside other small-business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.

“As a small-business owner, I see daily the importance of being involved and active when it comes to laws and regulation,” stated Jackson. “Joining NSBA’s Leadership Council will enable me to take our collective small-business message to the people that need to hear it most: Congress. I am proud to announce this nomination to close Black History Month 2025. ”

Stated Jeoffrey York, BPI National Advancement Director:

"Jackson is an nationally recognized rights activist, urban planner and economic developer whose career includes more than $1 billion of transformational projects, financings and developments supporting the diaspora, poor and MWBE ventures.

He has created incubator spaces for small businesses which provided free offices, technical assistance, training and client development opportunities. His decade plus of public service includes leadership on five municipal planning boards and commissions: with a historic appointment as the first and youngest Black Vice Chairman of the Albany County Planning Board where he led with distinction for five years. During this tenure, he advised 1,000+ municipal projects on smart growth rooted in Equity Urbanism and rigorous technical analysis. A review of Jackson's dozens of articles, speeches, essays and media displays a thoughtful, deliberate blueprint for post-modern Civil Rights across a neo-capitalist diaspora in Afrofuturist design. His current work building a national research institute with BPI will continue his transformative legacy of civic leadership and economic justice through urban planning and Black excellence in small business."

Jackson joined the NSBA Leadership Council as part of his efforts to tackle the many critical issues facing small business, including tax reform, regulatory restraint, health care costs and how access to capital will impact small business. The NSBA Leadership Council is focused on providing valuable networking between small-business advocates from across the country while ensuring small business a seat at the table as Congress and regulators take up key small-business proposals.

Stated Trent Griffin-Braaf, BPI Advisory Committee Member, 2023 SBA Small Businessperson of the Year for Upstate New York, and Forbes’ Next 1,000 Entrepreneur:

“As the founder of GB Logistics and Tech Valley Shuttle, I have a remarkable track record in passenger transportation, trucking, and logistics. Along with my ability to drive sales and innovation, I have also learned to identify and harness business potential, elevating team members from entry-level positions to C-suite roles. I am proud to bring my value in support of Mr. Jackson’s vision. He has an established track record of building and funding equitable projects for small businesses.”

“I am proud to have Travon T. Jackson as part of our Leadership Council,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken. “He came to us highly recommended and I look forward our coordinated efforts for years to come.”
